Woodstock to Rootstock is a company in Cork dedicated to teaching wine appreciation to all levels of enthusiasts. Wine Courses range from Beginners to Advanced. Specialised Courses can be tailormade for individual groups.Themes can  include a country or a region within a country eg Bordeaux or Piedmont.

Courses are run by Jack Barrett with occasional invited lecturers who would have a specialised interest in a topic.

Our intention is to impart knowledge in a relaxed and enjoyable environment to like-minded groups.

Wine is a fascinating subject and is made all the more so by having that bit of extra knowledge.

Confronting shelves of wine in a supermarket or wine store can be a little bewildering but armed with some basic rules one can narrow down a selection quite successfully. Our Course will give you these ground rules and teach you how to taste a wine correctly. Tasting is the best way to judge one wine against another for quality. Learning to taste is always great fun and will be done with the minimum of jargon.

Advanced Courses take Tasting to a higher level when many wines of the same variety from different areas and qualities are tasted side by side to evaluate and score them. By doing this you learn what makes ‘value’ in a wine. Why different wines of the same variety can taste so different is discussed. The effect of climate, soil, site and producer is explained.

Specialised courses tend to be more ‘intense’ and deal in detail on differences within the area and the effect these have on the wines. Producers are recommended also.

Woodstock To Rootstock will also organise tours to wine areas. In addition to wine these tours will have such things as golf and visits to acclaimed local restaurants. Wineries and vineyards on their own can become a bit much after a few days!
